Ms. Willow is a tenant in public housing with the Jacksonville Housing Authority. She and her two very young children were facing involuntary transfer to another housing complex miles away due to alleged noncompliance with imposed work requirements.
The work requirements included holding a 25+ hour per week job and to also have no more than 90 days of unemployment in one calendar year. As a single mother of two, these requirements are quite challenging to meet, especially since there are not many job opportunities on the northside of Jacksonville and Ms. Willow’s lack of transportation.
JALA worked with the Jacksonville Housing Authority to avoid the involuntary transfer, and preserved Ms. Willow’s right to remain in her apartment closer to her family and support network.
