Attorney Mike Duncan of Duncan Trial & Mediation is calling on peers to join him on a solo and small firm relay team that will participate in one of the six Freed to Run marathons benefiting Jacksonville Area Legal Aid’s Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership this December.
“Not many of us can run a full marathon, so I thought this would be a great way for us, as solo and small firms, to join together and support this fantastic cause,” Duncan said. “Each of us can run part of the way, and each member of the relay team can elect a distance for their relay leg that best suits them. Our team members can all take up a share of the fundraising effort, and together we can have the same impact as a large firm. Freed to Run is a great cause that firms of any size can support, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
Freed to Run will take place Dec. 15-20, starting on the steps of the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee and finishing on the lawn of the Duval County Courthouse. Each marathon will begin and end at a courthouse along the route.
Duncan plans to have the solo and small firm relay team run on Thursday, Dec. 19, which is Day 5 of Freed to Run and begins at the Columbia County Courthouse in Lake City, Fla. A shuttle bus provided by Elite Parking Services will shuttle teams from Jacksonville to the start of each day’s marathon, pick up and drop off the relay runners along the route, and bring them home at the end of the day.
Begun by Gunster shareholder Mike Freed, Freed to Run is helping JALA raise $1 million, which will be matched at $1.25 million by Baptist Health, to endow the medical legal partnership, through which pediatric patients and their families from throughout Northeast Florida receive civil legal help with problems from access to health benefits to housing to special education.
