“Henry,” a 70-year-old veteran, found himself facing a foreclosure lawsuit. Intimidated by the legal process and still grieving after the lengthy illness and death of his wife, he failed to respond to the court and eventually turned to JALA for assistance after a foreclosure judgment had been entered. JALA attorneys Declan Duffy and Lynn Drysdale handled Henry’s court case while the St. Johns Housing Partnership obtained a loan modification for Henry. JALA succeeded in getting Henry’s foreclosure lawsuit dismissed, and with his mortgage payment decreased through the loan modification, he now could afford to pay it. The collaboration between JALA and the St. Johns Partnership has kept many people in their homes, including veterans like Henry.
