“Sarah,” 58, was abused, stalked, and harassed by her 32-year-old daughter. After trying to cut off communication, Sarah continued to receive threatening voicemails, text messages and mail from her daughter, who would also sometimes just show up at Sarah’s house. The fear and anxiety of constantly looking over her shoulder led Sarah to install a security system and camera to protect herself from her daughter’s uninvited visits. Fearing for her safety, Sarah reached out to JALA for help. Michelle Broyles, division chief of JALA’s Family Law and Victim Advocacy Unit, got the court to issue a permanent injunction against Sarah’s daughter that prohibited her from returning to the house. JALA’s assistance gave Sarah relief and protection from the constant anxiety of this high-stress situation.
