“Felicia” turned to JALA after receiving suspicious and inaccurate notices from her new landlord, who accused her of noncompliance with her lease on various counts.
The landlord then filed an eviction accusing her and her boyfriend of nonpayment of rent even though she’d always paid in full. JALA represented Felicia and her boyfriend in the eviction case and filed a counterclaim for the inaccurate representation that a debt was owed.
After months of litigation and negotiations with the landlord and her attorney, JALA settled the case for $1,700 payable to the couple, the full return of their security deposit, and a move-out date to ensure that they could be free of the deteriorating conditions within the rental home. Felicia and her boyfriend are now happily living elsewhere, and the eviction was dismissed.
