Sandy Millington began offering pro bono legal services after joining the law office of Robinson Collins, P.L. Outside of her current law firm, Millington also participates in free information clinics with JALA, Hubbard House and Three Rivers Legal Services.

“When I see these individuals seeking help, I imagine my family going through these tough times and I just hope that I can provide some help and comfort,” Millington said.

Millington’s regular practice area is family law. She says her passion for pro bono work stems in large part from her own childhood,

“As someone who was raised with immigrant parents and not a lot of financial resources, it takes me back to the people who helped my family, and I am hoping that I can provide that same relief to someone in need,” Millington said. “I would tell attorneys to imagine their family or a close friend who needs help and treat a case or a client with the same care as if they were helping them.”

In a recent pro bono case, Millington represented a mother of three experiencing custody issues  in court.

“I just do not know how someone could have represented themselves throughout that process,” Millington said. “The other party had the financial resources to fight and have experts, so I was grateful that I was able to stand up for my client.”

Millington finds the ability to provide her clients support and comfort gratifying.

“These individuals feel like they are facing something so big and that they are on their own,” Millington said. “Sometimes just speaking to someone that can provide some information is all they need and they are truly very appreciative.”
