Name Changes

Due to the Real ID Act, several Northeast Florida Residents find themselves in a predicament where they are unable to get a Driver’s License or Florida Identification Card because the name on their birth certificate and social security card does not match.  Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc. can assist individuals to petition the court for a name change in these circumstances. There are fees associated with name changes, mainly the fingerprinting and background check. This fee generally is not waived and the applicant will be responsible for paying the fee.
