Family Law Assistance at Reduced Expense (FLARE)

  • What is FLARE?
    • FLARE is a program that provides moderate income families with legal help at a reduced expense in Duval, Clay, and Nassau Counties.
      • Think, “Low-Bono” or “Reduced Fee Services”
    • FLARE is designed to meet the needs of those individuals that may not qualify for traditional pro bono services, but also cannot afford standard hourly rates and retainers.

  • What types of cases qualify for FLARE?
    • Dissolution of Marriage (“Divorce”) with or without Children
    • Paternity actions; and
    • Supplemental relief, such as timesharing (“visitation”) disputes and child support.
    • Note: Currently, matters involving Domestic Violence; Adoption; Temporary Relative Custody; Department of Revenue, and Motions for Contempt/Enforcement do not qualify for the FLARE program.

  • How can I apply for FLARE?
    • Individuals who would like to receive assistance through the FLARE program may complete an online application to determine eligibility.
    • The application process includes providing proof of income and after applying, you will receive an email once your application has been reviewed.
    • To apply, click here.
      • Note: Interested participants are required to pay a one-time, non-refundable application fee in the amount of $40.00. Payment and submission of the application neither guarantees qualification through the FLARE program nor that you will receive an attorney.

  • Other than the Application Fee, what are the Fees associated with FLARE?
    • Once your application is reviewed and it’s determined you qualify for the FLARE program, you will then deposit a retainer for the service you’re interested in.
    • The services available are:
      • A One-Time, One-Hour Consultation – $85.00, Flat-Fee
      • Document Preparation without Representation – $280.00, Flat-Fee
      • A Limited Court/Mediation Appearance (that has already been scheduled) – $600.00, Flat-Fee
